Job Description

Title:  Project Engineer - Pump Station 2 Project - San Diego, CA


      Assist to manage, evaluate and assess information necessary to construct the project on time, within budget, and to the quality specified by the contract documents.  Coordinate and assist with planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of project within area of assigned responsibility by performing many of the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate field staffing on scheduled activities.
  • Prepare and submit time records and document controls.
  • Track and schedule major equipment and materials required to best execute the work.
  • Thoroughly understand the scope of work, specifications, and drawings on the project.
  • Plan ahead for sufficient material and equipment resources for efficient installation.
  • Prepare and submit project reports, and maintain files in accordance with company and City standards.
  • Maintain quality control practices in accordance with the project quality control plan.
  • Maintain a daily diary or log of work activities, meetings, and significant conversations.
  • Maintain close contact and good working relationship with customer representatives.
  • Promote company Equal Employment Opportunity Plan for all new hires and project staffing.
  • Manage submittals and shop drawings.  Assess conformance to contract specifications.
  • *This engineer will be the individual responsible for building the overall project on paper.


  • Hold, or strive to receive, a valid first-aid and supervisor training certificate.
  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Enforce strict discipline on the jobsite with respect to safety and workplace practices and project requirements.
  • Conduct and record regular safety inspections on assigned projects.
  • Promptly and accurately complete investigations and reports on all near-misses, and all personal injury or property damage accidents.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.


  • Knowledgeable of methods of construction practices and project execution.
  • Training and practical knowledge of construction trades.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and related team-building skills required to instruct, motivate, and manage field employees, and to communicate effectively with all parties.
  • Must work collaboratively in a team environment, with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Respectfully take direction and adhere to feedback from company personnel.
  • Maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance, in accordance with company work hours.
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with computer applications.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Performance of the required duties will require the physical ability to occasionally climb permanent and temporary stairs, climb ladders, negotiate work areas under construction, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally requires passenger use of construction personnel hoists. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job regularly requires the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk, hear, and stand. Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering-related major, and three to five years’ experience in construction field work.
  • Complete fluency with Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel and Word, and familiarity with scheduling mechanics.
